The small wheeled train of Montpellier-le-Vieux, started in 1989, follows a 1.5 km-long track through the heart of la Cité de Pierres. The journey lasts 50 minutes there and back, including stops.
It follows the Cirque des Millières through the Allée des Baumes and the Allée des Tombeaux, then follows the majestic Cirque des Rouquettes. It passes in front of the Baume Obscure (a stop on the wayback) and underneath the nez de Cyrano at the Chaire du Diable, reaching the end of the outward journey at the roundabout of the Citerne.
It is very easy to see the legendary Porte de Mycènes from this roundabout, or to access the paths furthest away from the entrance: Château Gaillard with Le Magnifique has one of the most beautiful viewpoints of the city, or the Forêt Ombragée with the Arc de Triomphe and the Roc Camparolié (roc’art).
It is also possible to do either just as a one-way trip, there or back, by following the paths that come from or lead to the entrance: the Remparts, the Belvédère, the Arboretum and the Labyrinthe.
